Frequently Asked Questions

Buying a Piano

Q: Do you sell new or secondhand pianos?

A: We specialise in refurbished secondhand pianos, carefully selected and restored to a high standard. This allows you to get a much better-quality instrument for your budget compared to buying new.

Q: Why choose a refurbished piano?

A: Refurbished pianos often offer:

* Superior build quality compared to many modern entry-level pianos
* A richer, more characterful tone
* Excellent value for money
* Sustainability (reusing high-quality instruments)

Q: Can I try the piano before buying?

A: Yes. We always recommend trying a piano where possible. Viewings can be arranged by appointment so you can take your time and choose the right instrument. Get in touch by phone 01787 310901 or email lesley@secondhandpiano.co.uk

Quality & Warranty

Q:Are your pianos checked before sale?

A: Yes. Every piano is:

Fully inspected
Tuned to concert pitch
Regulated and adjusted where needed
All internal parts refurbished where needed
Case refurbihsed where needed

We only sell instruments we would be happy to have in our own homes.

Q: Do your pianos come with a warranty?

A: Yes, all our pianos come with a warranty for peace of mind. Details vary depending on the instrument—please ask for specifics.

Q: Will the piano need tuning after delivery?

A: Not immediately. We recommend tuning your piano around 6-8 weeks after delivery to allow it to settle into its new environment.

Selling & Part Exchange

Q: Do you buy pianos?

A:Yes, we may be able to purchase your piano depending on:

* Make and model
* Condition
* Location

Send us details and photos for a quick assessment.

Q: Do you offer part exchange?

A: In some cases, yes. If you’re upgrading your piano, we’re happy to discuss part exchange options. If your piano is ‘beyond repair’ we can advise on the scrappage costs.

Choosing the Right Piano

Q: Should I choose an upright or a grand piano?

A: Upright pianos are ideal for most homes and offer excellent value
Grand pianos provide superior tone and touch but require more space

We’ll help you decide based on your needs and space.

Q: What is the best piano for a beginner?

A:A good-quality refurbished upright piano is usually the best choice for beginners:

* Reliable
* Affordable
* Musically rewarding

Avoid very old, cheap, low-quality instruments—they can make learning harder.

Q: How long does a piano last?

A: A well-maintained piano can last 50–100 years or more. Many older pianos are excellent instruments once properly refurbished.

Maintenance & Care

Q: How often should a piano be tuned?
A: We recommend tuning:

* At least once a year
* Ideally every 6 months for regular players

Q: Where should I place my piano?
A: Avoid placing your piano:

* Near radiators
* In direct sunlight
* Against damp external walls

Stable temperature and humidity help maintain tuning and condition.
